Topic:
“Dragonite by Applied Minerals”

Applied Minerals Inc., headquartered in New York, N.Y., is the leading producer of halloysite clay and advanced natural iron oxide solutions from its wholly owned Dragon Mine property located in Eureka, Utah. The Dragon Mine was originally owned by the Filtrol Corporation in the 1950s to the mid 1970s where their halloysite was used in the production of Fluid Cracking Catalyst.

Halloysite is an aluminosilicate additive that forms naturally occurring nanotubes. Applied Minerals markets its halloysite products under the DRAGONITE™ trade name and has developed applications that benefit from the tubular morphology of its halloysite, such as carriers of active ingredients in paints, coatings and building materials, adhesives, environmental remediation, agricultural applications, and high-performance additives for plastic composites.  Specifically, in paints and coatings, halloysite is known to increase adhesion, provide anti-corrosion properties, scratch and impact resistance, as well as other mechanical properties.

Additionally, Dragonite is an excellent binder in catalyst and molecular sieves, and its high surface area and nanoparticle size provide excellent green strength. Dragonite is a commercially patented specialty additive that provides an unmatched combination of nucleation, reinforcement, flame retardancy, and rheological properties of polyethylene and polypropylene. It is proven to reduce cycle times in polyethylene and polypropylene by 25-30%. Finally, Dragonite provides significant increases in both tensile and compressive strength in cement and concrete based products.

The Company also produces a range of ultra-pure natural iron oxides consisting of hematite and goethite for a wide range of end uses in pigment and technical applications. Applied Minerals markets its comprehensive line of advanced natural iron oxide pigments under the AMIRON™ trade name.
